On 28 February 2026, the Art and Culture Centre of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation will open an exhibition entitled ‘landscapes change places – works from the PLMJ Foundation collection’ in Évora. The exhibition is curated by João Silvério.

The Eugénio de Almeida Foundation is presenting an exhibition called ‘landscapes change places – works from the PLMJ Foundation collection’ at its Art and Culture Centre. Bringing together more than fifty works by forty artists from various Portuguese-speaking countries, the exhibition showcases a range of artistic expressions from different generations.

This project, whose title the curator João Silvério borrowed from the Évora poet Manuel Gusmão “is based on the idea of the territory as a visual and social body in constant change. This concept is similar to a poetic idea of landscape, using the art collection as a backdrop and, at the same time, as a transforming agent of the cultural universe of the PLMJ Foundation project. Currently, this project has a connection to the diverse territory of the Alentejo, specifically Évora. The concept of a cultural landscape associated with an art collection is currently a prevalent model for the diversity and transformation of the evolving world.” The curator adds: “The exhibition is a prospective landscape which, following the architecture of the space, offers different interpretations of the idea of change. This is not limited to different artistic techniques and media, but takes on particular relevance in themes relating to the core pieces in the collection and works that express an idea of difference, such as the feminine, justice and politics.”

For the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, this exhibition project, carried out jointly with the PLMJ Foundation, highlights the value of forming partnerships with leading institutions. This approach ensures a more inclusive, diverse and comprehensive programme, offering everyone the chance to experience contemporary art and engage with the issues it raises in modern society.

The PLMJ Foundation Collection is a corporate art collection that reflects the diversity of contemporary creation. The exhibition ‘landscapes change places’ showcases the Foundation’s significant photography collection, which also incorporates video. It focuses on sculpture and explores the relationships formed between the interior and exterior spaces of the Art and Culture Centre, as well as its location and landscape. The artistic itinerary also features drawings and paintings, culminating in a performance by Mariana Gomes. This final phase of the exhibition will see an intervention linking the performing arts to regional gastronomy and the local community.
