This exhibition is representative of the photographic work in the PLMJ Foundation’s collection, covering the period from the end of the Second World War to the present day.
The selection of works for the exhibition is guided by a presentation of photographic works from the beginning of the collection to the most recent acquisitions. From photojournalism, with a strong documentary tendency, to neo-realist photography, often socially critical of the pre-revolutionary period of April 1974, to the exhibition of photographic works by Portuguese and Portuguese-speaking artists from the last two decades.
The photography section of the collection has built up a historical collection of the photographic image, which, from the modern era to the present day, constitutes a memory of different periods between two centuries, in which the digital paradigm has appropriated the multiplication of images and a possible rarefaction of individual memory and collective imagination.
