The exhibition Cem Obras, Dez Anos (One Hundred Works, Ten Years) provides an overview of the PLMJ Foundation’s collection, which originally focused on Portuguese art and has recently been expanded to include art from the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue that reproduces the works on display and other works by the participating artists, as well as an essay by Miguel Amado, the PLMJ Foundation’s curator. The exhibition is made up of works that exemplify the plurality of aesthetics that characterises the PLMJ Foundation’s collection. Historical disciplines such as painting and sculpture are juxtaposed with those that explore new means of expression, such as video.
There is also a combination of trends that dialogue with the traditions of artistic languages and practices that analyse social life and address the political and economic spheres. The exhibition brings together established and emerging artists from the national scene, focusing on names associated with the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, in line with the logic of the PLMJ Foundation’s collection development.
Participants include Ângela Ferreira, Fernanda Fragateiro, Joana Vasconcelos, João Louro, José Pedro Croft, Julião Sarmento, Miguel Palma, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Pedro Calapez and Rui Chafes The exhibition also includes emerging artists from the CPLP art scene, revealing a new aspect of the collection of the PLMJ Foundation, a pioneer in this field in Portugal and abroad. Among the participants are Celestino Mudaulane, Jorge Días, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Rosana Ricalde and Yonamine
