For the first time, Joana Vasconcelos brings together all the animal images she used to interpret Bordalo Pinheiro’s bestiary. The wasp and the lobster, made by the artist only after restoring the original moulds, as well as the other pieces, rest on pedestals or hang on the gallery walls, waiting for the magical moment when they come to life and set off in search of their natural environment.
With the vivacity of the black, red or white of the napkins captivating the eye and the sensuality of the paintings and ceramic glazes exalting the other senses, this exhibition demonstrates the relevance of the projects and the excellence of the creative genius of Bordalo Pinheiro and Joana Vasconcelos.
