The exhibition Lusophone Artists III was conceived for the space of CACAU - Casa das Artes, Criação, Ambiente e Utopias (House of Arts, Creation, Environment and Utopias) and is being presented in its third edition as part of the 12th Meeting of CPLP Foundations. This exhibition project’s journey began in Maputo in 2016 and was later presented in Luanda, with each edition presenting a different group of artists from the collection of the PLMJ Foundation, who are part of a shared universe.
This sharing is present, on the one hand, in language and in the Portuguese-speaking world and, on the other, in artistic creation, another language of languages that intersect in a universal expression. The works on display lead us to share, from a plastic, aesthetic or linguistic point of view, a sedimentation of layers that is present in the work that the artists have developed, even if their language seems codified to us.
In this way, the exhibition is a point of encounter and revelation, pointing to various themes of reflection and research in the artists’ work, such as ways of living or relationships with the city, a very present element as a human space of coexistence, confluence of languages and, often, conflict. But also subjective poetics, which have an inexhaustible field of possibilities and are therefore the individual expression of a shared freedom.
