Vítor Pomar (Lisbon, 1949) attended the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto (ESBAP) and Lisbon (ESBAL) between 1966 and 1969. In 1970, he had his first solo exhibition at the Quadrante Gallery in Lisbon. In 1970, he attended the Free Academy in The Hague and the Rotterdam Art Academy, graduating in 1973. Between 1973 and 1974, he taught serigraphy at the Free Academy in The Hague.
After returning to Portugal in 1985, he stopped producing art and founded and directed the Casa-Museu Álvaro de Campos Cultural Association in Tavira between 1987 and 1989. He exhibited at the EMI - Valentim de Carvalho Gallery and the Graça Fonseca Gallery. In 1988, he exhibited his photographic work at the Modern Art Centre, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.
In 2001, he exhibited at Galeria Trem, Faro, and Galeria Pedro Cera, Lisbon. In 2003, he was awarded the EDP Arte 2002 Prize, followed by an anthological exhibition of his work at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto. In 2011, he exhibited again at the Modern Art Centre, FCG, Lisbon. In 2012, his exhibition Atributos do Ar was shown at the Bloco 103 Gallery. In the same year, he presented the exhibition Uma Pátria Assim...Such a Homeland at Museu da Eletricidade - the EDP Foundation, Lisbon.
Vítor Pomar's work is included in various public and private collections, including the Luso-American Development Foundation, Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Modern Art Centre, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Ministry of Finance, and the PLMJ Foundation, among others.
