Vasco Barata (Lisbon, 1974) holds a degree in painting and a postgraduate in drawing from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, where he also studied Photography. He attended the Visual Arts Course of the Gulbenkian Program for Creativity and Artistic Creation (2006) and is currently a PhD candidate in Contemporary Art at the University of Coimbra. Since the 1990s, he has presented a diverse body of work focused on image construction through photography, video, and drawing, with a particular interest in cinema and popular culture.
His recent solo exhibitions include Wallpapers (2007), AfterGlow (2008), and Um Peso Fantasma (2014). His work is represented in collections such as the EDP Foundation, the PLMJ Foundation, and Caixa Geral de Depósitos, as well as in various private collections in Portugal and abroad.
