Thandi Pinto, born in Maputo, Mozambique, in 1990, is an artist who explores the intersections between photography, digital art, and collage. Her passion for the arts has guided her path since joining the photography collective VêSó in 2017, where she honed her skills and deepened her interest in visual storytelling. In 2018, she made her debut in the group exhibition “VêSó Chamanculo” at the Centro Cultural Brasil-Moçambique in Maputo. Her work has since been featured in significant exhibitions, such as “African Galleries Now 2022,” represented by Galeria Arte de Gema, and “Visão do Paraíso,” also at the Centro Cultural Brasil-Moçambique. That same year, she received an Honorable Mention at the “Better Futures Award” by Hollard Seguros, being selected among more than a hundred artists.
She also participated in exhibitions such as “Resilience: Between Presences and Absences” at ARCOlisboa (Portugal), and “Print It!” at Aire Place Studios in Leeds (England). In 2022, she was selected for the prestigious Catchupa Factory artist residency in São Vicente (Cape Verde). The following year, she took part in the “6th Image and Territory Meeting – Photography Without Borders,” organized by the Centro de Estudos Ibéricos in Guarda (Portugal), and in the ROOTS artist residency, with an exhibition in Lagos (Portugal).
Her participation in “African Galleries Now 2023” and ARCOlisboa 2023 further established her presence in the contemporary African art scene, where she continues to explore themes such as identity, culture, and memory through her visual language. She has gained international recognition, with her work included in collections such as those of Fundação PLMJ and Fundación ARCO, through the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Dos de Mayo (Spain), as well as in private collections.
In 2025, she is taking part in “Black Owned Galleries Now,” represented by her gallery Arte de Gema. In the same year, she was invited by the Government of Munich, Germany, to participate in the Ebenbök Residency and AlmResidency programs, with exhibitions and open studios to be announced.
