Sónia Carvalho

Sónia Carvalho (1978) is a Portuguese visual artist and researcher who is in the third year of her doctorate in Fine Arts, in Painting, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
She is a member of the research centres ID+ (Institute for Research in Design, Media and Culture) and CIEBA (Centre for Research and Studies in Fine Arts).
She holds a Master's degree in Drawing and Printing Techniques from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (2013), a degree in Fine Arts - Painting from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (2004) and a degree in Plastic Arts from the Escola Superior de Arte e Design das Caldas da Rainha (2002). She was a lecturer at the Guimarães School of Art and a teacher at the Colégio Internato dos Carvalhos. She has collaborated with the cultural association Pensart in Madrid and participated in the Cleaning the House workshop led by Marina Abramovic in Greece and the Transmetatlanticus international digital residency organised by the EMERGE association in partnership with the Niemeyer House at the University of Brasilia. Her solo exhibitions include  Wombat, Casa Azul, Lisbon (2001); Arquetipo(grafia) Obscura do Feminino, Galeria Ana Lama, Lisbon (2020).
