Silvestre Pestana

Silvestre Pestana (Funchal, 1949) is a poet, artist, and performer. He graduated in Graphic Arts and Design from ESBAP and has a Master's in Art and Design Teaching from De Montfort University. He was a teacher at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra. He studied television and electronic music at Stockholm University.
His solo exhibitions include Acrilic Kunst, K Gallery, Stockholm (1972); Poema / Ovo, C.A.P.C. Gallery (1977); As Ilhas Desertas, Árvore Gallery (1979); Radiologias, C.A.P.C. Gallery (1980); Bio-Virtual, C.A.P.C. Gallery (1980); Bio-Virtual, Árvore Gallery (1984); Bio-Virtual, Leo Gallery (1984).
In the 1980s he authored poems programmed for ZX81, ZX82, and later in colour for Spectrum, entitled Computer Poetry. He created poetic-graphic music scores for Anar Band (Rui Reininho and Jorge Lima Barreto, 1977) and published the exhibition book/catalogue Águas Vivas (Galerias Alvarez, 2002). Together with Fernando Aguiar, he organised Poemografias (a book and travelling exhibition of visual poetry, 1985), co-organised What is Watt (since 2001), and frequently participates in the Vila Nova de Cerveira International Biennial. His work was the subject of an exhibition in the cycle Nas Escritas PO.EX (Povo Novo Virtual, 2013).
