Rui Sanches

Rui Sanches (Lisbon, 1954) studied at Ar.Co – Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual, received a BA from Goldsmiths' College (1980), an MFA from Yale University (1982), and a PhD from the University of Algarve (2017). He held his first exhibition in 1984 at the Galeria de Arte Moderna of SNBA and Galeria Diferença.
Notable exhibitions include a retrospective at CAM of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2001), MUSEUM at the National Museum of Ancient Art (2008), and Dentro do desenho at Fundação Carmona e Costa (2014). His work is part of public collections, including the Gulbenkian Museum and Serralves Museum. He has public artworks in spaces such as the Colunata at the Portuguese Assembly of the Republic and the Monument to Maria José Nogueira Pinto. He received the AICA-Ministry of Culture Prize in 2008.
