Rosa Carvalho was born in Lisbon (1952), where she lives and works. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon and is known for recreating, with great precision, works by masters such as François Boucher, Francisco de Goya, Rembrandt and Diego Velázquez, from which she removes the original female figures. This gesture emphasises the role of women in classical art, not as creators, but as muses and sources of inspiration. Her solo exhibitions include: Às escuras | Rosa Carvalho, Fundação Arpad Szenes-Vieira da Silva (2024); Keep Going, Guest Room Contemporary Art, Brussels (2011); In a Different Place, Galeria Presença, Porto (2010). Group exhibitions include: Tudo o que eu quero - Portuguese Artists from 1900 to 2020, Museu Calouste Gulbenkian (2021), A Secreta Vida das Palavras, Centro Cultural Emmerico Nunes, Sines (2010); Inéditos, Galeria Presença, Porto (2009). His work is in the collection of Caixa Geral de Depósitos, CAM / FCG, the PLMJ Foundation, the Ilídio Pinho Foundation (Porto) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Diplomatic Institute).
