Pedro Amaral (1960, Lisbon) lives and works between Sintra and Setúbal. With no formal artistic training, he stood out as an illustrator in the 1980s and 1990s, working for newspapers such as Combate and O Independente. In 1995, he founded the Sparring Partners collective with Alice Geirinhas and João Fonte Santa, marking his entry into contemporary art. He works with painting, video, installation and performance and has taken part in important exhibitions such as Zapping-Ecstazy (CAPC, Coimbra, 1996) and The Sparring-Partners Academy Art Collection (ZDB, Lisbon, 2001). His solo shows include Still (CAPC, 2002) and Medo do Escuro (the PLMJ Foundation, 2009). He is represented in collections such as the Museum of Neorealism and the PLMJ Foundation.
