Paulo Mendes (Lisbon, 1966) is a visual artist, curator, and cultural producer. Founder of PLANO 21, he has been exhibiting since the 1990s, participating in shows such as Images for the 90s (Serralves, 1993), X-Rated (ZDB, 1997), Portuguese Screen Videoart Showcase (LOOP’05, 2005), and S de Saudade (Museu do Neo-Realismo, 2008). He has curated both independent and institutional projects, including Anatomias Contemporâneas (Hangar K7, 1997), UrbanLab_Bienal da Maia (2001), and Projeto Terminal (2005). For Porto 2001, he presented the installation-performance COPY.PASTE with João Galante, and in 2004, alongside António Olaio, he conceived Ken I Be Matisse? at the Serralves Museum. He also designed scenography for Spring Awakening (TECA, 2004). His work is part of collections such as the Serralves Foundation, PLMJ Foundation, Ilídio Pinho Foundation, and MEIAC (Spain).
