Francisco Tropa

Francisco Tropa was born in Lisbon (1968), where he still lives and works. He attended Ar.Co and the Royal College of Art, London, and completed his training as a scholarship holder of the Alfred Topfel Foundation at the Kunstakademie, Münster, Germany (1995-1996).
He has exhibited regularly in Portugal and abroad. In 1997 he was awarded the Amstelveen Art Prize, Amsterdam, and in 1998 the Drawing Prize of the Caldas da Rainha Biennial.
His exhibitions include those at the Serralves Museum (1998, 2006, 2010 and 2024), the FCG Modern Art Centre (2003) and Culturgest (2006). He participated in the international exhibitions of the São Paulo Biennale in 1999 and the Venice Biennale in 2003, and was the representative of the Portuguese Pavilion in 2011. He has also participated in the Rennes Biennial (2012), the Istanbul Biennial (2011), Manifesta (2000) and the Melbourne Biennial (1999).
