Eduardo Nery (1938-2013) was born in Figueira da Foz. He graduated in architecture and studied painting at ESBAL. An abstract painter with a geometric tendency, he stood out for his innovative approach to combining art and public space, creating striking urban interventions. He was a pioneer of kinetic art in Portugal and internationally recognised for his contribution to public art and design. He was influenced by Constructivism, Cubism and Dadaism. In France, he studied tapestry with the painter Jean Lurçat.
He represented his country at the Lausanne International Biennale in 1965. He has worked in the fields of painting, drawing, engraving, collage, tapestry, tiles, stained glass, design, photography, illustration and book covers, exploring and studying the qualities of geometry and colour in his work.
